Medical treatment costs in India are increasing rapidly. Even a short hospital stay can cost several lakhs. If you have a basic health insurance policy of ₹3–5 lakh, it may not be enough in case of a serious illness or accident.
This is where a Super Top-Up Health Insurance plan becomes useful.
Here are a few more reasons why you may need a Super Top-Up plan:

A Super Top-Up Health Insurance Plan works on a deductible basis.
It starts paying only after your total medical expenses cross a fixed amount (called the deductible) in one policy year.
Simple Example
Let's assume you have an existing health insurance policy of ₹3 lakh along with a Super Top-Up policy of ₹10 lakh.
Scenario 1 The hospital bill is ₹4 lakh. How the claim will be paid:Your main health insurance policy will pay the first ₹3 lakh, and the Super Top-Up policy will then pay the remaining ₹1 lakh. |
Scenario 2 The hospital bill is ₹7 lakh. How the claim will be paid:Your main health insurance policy will pay the first ₹3 lakh, and the Super Top-Up policy will then pay the remaining ₹4 lakh. |
Here's how it works:
To help you clearly understand how the deductible works in both Top-Up and Super Top-Up health insurance plans, here’s a simple example with two claims. The illustration table below explains it better:
